The Corn Lily is a misnomer is some ways. It is not related to corn, which is a type of domesticated grass, but is a flower of its own right. It is named so for its large leaves that can look like a corn cob, with its vertical ribs. It is actually in the Lily family of plants. It is truly a magnanimous lily for it can soar up to 6 feet tall! This plant is a representation of all four elements as well. It a plant (earth) that grows in marshes (water). The flowering stock is reminiscent of a torch (fire) and there is a wide space between the leaves at the bottom of the stock and the flower at the top (air). The Lily is a sacred plant to goddesses like Hera, goddess of childbirth and Queen of the Gods in ancient Greece. It signifies health and prosperity and would certainly be a perfect gift for any mother in your life.
